A Room of Our Own

Outline of a flower with five petals.

A space for queer women and non-binary people who enjoy lively, honest and interesting conversation, good food, and meeting people beyond their usual circles. A space for you. Each time we will bring a spark - a guest, an idea, a subject - to ignite conversation and see where it takes us.

A place to be and to belong.

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well”

Virginia Woolf A Room of One’s Own 1929

THE EVENING

What to expect from our evenings

The evening includes

A shared dinner in a welcoming setting

A short reading from the work of a queer woman

A conversation with a queer guest speaker

An unhurried space for talking, listening and laughing

Since we first had this idea, we’ve heard the same thing again and again: queer women and non-binary people are looking for spaces to connect more deeply, laugh more loudly and leave feeling part of a community.

A Room of Our Own is designed to offer exactly that.

A gathering for queer women and non-binary people who value authentic conversation, good food, and new connections.

Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s idea that women need rooms of their own, these evenings create a space where we can come together without performance or expectation. No networking. No panels. Just us.

Each dinner aims to bring together people from different backgrounds, generations, professions, interests - all united by curiosity and openness - and, of course, queerness!

FINDING EACH OTHER

Who is coming to this event?

  • Places are limited to 20 guests.

  • We have a simple “first come first served” approach.

  • You can come on your own or with a friend or friends that you think would also enjoy the experience. We anticipate many people will come on their own and the space is designed to build connections.

  • We want to encourage the rich diversity of backgrounds and life experiences that we know queer women and non-binary people embrace.

  • We don’t plan to advertise or market these events - so please share with anyone who you think might be interested and want to be added to this or future invites

  • We hope our guests will help us to include people of all ages and stages of life, professional and creative interests and identities within the queer women and non-binary community.

  • Should we find we are oversubscribed and cannot accommodate everyone, we will make every effort to include people who were disappointed at future dinners.

  • It is our expectation that we will always respect each other’s points of view and leave the room as friends.
